Other notes
Occasionally, small volumes of the urea test kit vials may become trapped in the product vial seal during shipping and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial in a benchtop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid on the lid of the container. Some products may need to be shipped with dry ice and an additional fee may apply for dry ice.
Related Product Information for Urea test kit
Background / Introduction: Urea is a waste product that is produced in the liver, dissolves in the blood (at a concentration of 2.5 to 7.5 mM), and is secreted by the kidneys. Urea also plays a very important role in protein catabolism, removal of toxic ammonia from the body, and the countercurrent system that allows reabsorption of water and critical ions in nephrons. The determination of urea is very useful for the clinician to evaluate the kidney function and other organs of patients.
The urea test kit provides fast, simple, sensitive, and reliable measurement of the urea level in a variety of samples such as serum, plasma, and urine, etc. In the assay, urea reacts as a substrate with compounds in the presence of enzymes to form a product that reacts with the OxiRed probe to generate color (lambda max = 570nm). The optical density of the color produced has a direct relationship with the concentration of urea in the solution. The kit can detect as little as 0.5 nmol per well or 10 uM urea. The assay is also suitable for high throughput studies.
